Gas/Electric Small Package Products

Qualify For

Federal Income Tax Credits

Good News! Following a thorough and deliberate analysis of the provisions in the American

Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009, ICP is pleased to include Gas/Electric small

package products among the equipment that qualifies for the federal tax credit. The chart

below shows the models that achieve the required 14 SEER + 12 EER rating. The entire cost

of these models (including installation) is eligible for tax credit consideration.

Packaged Central Air Conditioner “Manufacturer’s Certification Statements” have been

updated with these Gas/Electric models, and posted to the consumer websites and to the Go!

websites (look for the Tax Credit link on the home page), and to the ICP Navigator website

(select “2009 U.S. Tax Credit Information”). Manufacturer’s Certification Statements are the

documents that the IRS suggests homeowners keep in their tax file to support a tax credit

claimed under the Qualified Energy Property provision.

Remember these general guidelines:

Manufacturer’s Certification Statements identify all the ICP products that are eligible for

income tax credits. If a certain product does not appear, do not assume that it qualifies.

Models shown are listed in the Air-Conditioning, Heating, and Refrigeration Institute

(AHRI) Directory of Certified Product Performance (www.AHRIdirectory.org).

There are other ICP small package products that perform at high efficiencies but do not

qualify for the tax credit.

Check the Manufacturer’s Certification Statements carefully before you sell product with

the promise of a tax credit.

  

 

Specific information on how to claim the Tax Credit should be obtained directly from the U.S.

Internal Revenue Service. Manufacturer’s Certification Statements should be provided to the

homeowner for their records and to support their Tax Credit claims for these systems.

Contractors should be instructed to circle or highlight the system installed in the home as a

convenience to the homeowner.
